Dr. Stephanie Baker, PhD, RSW, SEP

There are moments in life when we struggle to understand our experiences, navigate challenges, or find our way forward. Through a therapeutic relationship grounded in compassion, respect, and inclusivity, we can create space to reconnect with the strengths, wisdom, and resources that already exist within you, supporting healing, growth, and a deeper connection with yourself as you move toward creating a life that feels meaningful and whole.

Sisu is a unique Finnish concept that describes a special strength and extraordinary determination in moments of adversity.  It entails a combination of perseverance, resilience, and resoluteness that enables individuals to maintain a courageous approach towards challenges.

I believe that every person who makes the decision to seek support embodies Sisu; it takes tremendous bravery and tenacity to explore life's challenges in a deeply transformative manner.

About Stephanie

Image Description: A black and white picture of Stephanie. Stephanie is white, has brown eyes, and long dark hair with short blunt bangs. She is dressed in a black shirt which contrasts against a white background.

I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP).  I have been practising in the field for over 30 years and have extensive training in a range of therapeutic modalities, several of which are trauma-specific. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Brock University, as well as a Master of Social Work and PhD in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Throughout my practice, trauma has been a consistent thread woven through the experiences of those I have had the privilege to serve. I have worked with individuals navigating a wide range of experiences, including acquired brain injury, addictions, intimate partner violence, mental health, concurrent disorders, sexual violence, neurodivergence, and the impacts of complex and developmental trauma. My experience includes providing individual, couples, family, and group therapy to people across diverse ages and needs in both community and institutional settings.

Through my personal and professional experiences, I believe that adversity can become an invitation for growth, healing, and deeper self-understanding. I believe that each person carries inherent strengths, wisdom, and resources, even when life circumstances may make those qualities difficult to access. Because so many of our struggles are relational in nature, I am deeply committed to the transformative power of a safe and supportive relationship. A collaborative, compassionate, and respectful relationship fosters hope and creates the conditions required for individuals to move toward wholeness.

My expertise lies in supporting people in navigating the impacts of various forms of trauma, neurodivergence, addiction, violence, and mental health concerns, including the complex ways these experiences intersect.
